In reading the article 'Additional buses hit Brisbane Roads' in today's (July 21, 2010) Satellite newspaper, some of my concerns regarding the Sherwood Bus Depot have been affirmed.

How can council pretend that they will have control over bus movements to and from the depot when they have little say or responsibility on how buses are actually scheduled and routed.  The transport department, more specifically translink, have the overall responsibility and say on how the buses at the Sherwood Depot will be used.  They will not need to consult with council if they so choose not to, on what routes and schedules the buses from Sherwood will be used.

How is it that Cr de Wit expects the State Government to listen to her concerns, when she didn't listen to the residents of Sherwood and there opposition to the depot.  I didn't see her abstaining or crossing the floor on this issue.  If she wished to have more bus services for the outer Brisbane suburbs, why not build a depot out there, instead of at Sherwood?

Seems as though the Sherwood and neighboring residents are more up to speed with the local issues facing us than the people we elect to represent us.  When will our politicians start to listen????

Additional buses hit Brisbane roads - The Satellite 21 July 2010

RESIDENTS are set to benefit from 25 new buses hitting the road, delivering much needed additional bus services for the people of Brisbane.

Public and active transport chairwoman Margaret de Wit said the council accepted the 25 new buses, which should have been put into service in the 2009-10 financial year as per the 3G contract.

“These 25 buses should have been put on the road last financial year as promised,” Cr de Wit said.

“Unfortunately, they were left idle at a council depot while Brisbane ratepayers waited for the State Government and Translink to put the buses into service.”

Councillor de Wit said she was pleased the new buses were being put into service, but concerned the delivery and set routes proposed by State Transport Minister Rachel Nolan would restrict flexibility.

“To have these buses specifically marked and restricted to two routes will not help address the issue of buses filling up in the outer suburbs with passengers from other council areas, forcing Brisbane ratepayers to wait for another bus,” Cr de Wit said.

“I look forward to working through these issues with Minister Nolan to deliver better bus services for Brisbane.”

I dunno why you guys are so

I dunno why you guys are so concerned over the impact of buses....Buses should have priority over cars anyway since they use the available road space more efficiently.

Note there are no new buses

Note there are no new buses for Sherwood, Graceville, Corinda residents, so we can't get cars off our local roads!
