Walter Taylor South Action Group Inc. Protecting the Streetscapes

At Council on Tuesday I raised a number of issues on behalf of our community as part of the planning for flood recovery. All of my motions and suggestions were voted down by LNP Councillors.
 
I sought Council support for the following matters:

• an urgency motion to debate the recovery of our parks and playgrounds - voted down by LNP Councillors
• a motion to rebuild the children's playground at Giraween Park, Graceville as is currently planned - voted down by LNP Councillors
• a motion to include thanks to our Schools and School P&C's for all of their flood efforts - voted down by LNP Councillors
• a motion that Council continues its support for residents including on private property, for example gardens, lawns and rubbish collection where necessary - voted down by LNP Councillors.

 
Last week I wrote to the CEO of Council suggesting that they reactivate Brisbane's magnificent Mud Army in order to assist residents to clean their yards and local parks. This is still an enormous task that has not been tackled in many cases. I hope that this suggestion is being seriously considered.
 
"It was very disappointing that the number of proactive suggestions, to progress flood recovery efforts in Tennyson Ward that I made, were simply rejected out of hand along party lines.   I will continue to raise issues for local residents to ensure that our community has all of the necessary resources to continue recovering from this terrible natural disaster, " Cr Johnston said.
