Key points noted were.
Residents may have received a copy of Cr Nicole Johnston’s Statement to Council distributed at the BCC Neighbourhood Planning session that a large number of local residents attended on Thurs 6th August. This was the first time that residents became aware of the proposal to build a large bus depot at 496 Sherwood Road. Council has just purchased this eight-hectare block of land that has been vacant since 2007 when a warehouse on the site was destroyed by fire. Cr Johnston was registering her concerns about this proposal and went on the record that she does not support the bus depot in this particular location.
Do you have a view on the proposal for five storeys in our suburbs? Talk to a Planner!

Come and have a say at our AGM on 15th Oct
WTSAG recently received this letter from Councillor Nicole Johnston who is seeking community views on Rowing Qld’s proposal for Simpson Park. The concept plan can be seen above.
You have heard the saying “No news is good news”. This newsletter is a case in point. It has been some time since there has been a need for a newsletter. The intense activity in the group’s early years has subsided. Much of this activity centred around publicising potentially inappropriate developments at the request of concerned local residents. Many of the developments of concern were small lot development – the selling off of back yards and the slice and slide that was occurring because of the fact that so many of our beautiful old Queenslanders were built across two lots. One would like to think that the changes to the Small Lot Code had some effect, but it may well be that local developers have exhausted many of the “opportunities” and moved on. We will see. WTSAG has been able to spend less time on fighting bushfires and more time on constructive input into the Small Lot Code review, the Integrated Planning Act review, the Brisbane CityShape 2026 exercise and the Neighbourhood Planning process that commences late 2007. These activities will hopefully contribute to the enhancement of our suburbs.

Graceville Bowls Club has a development application before Council as part of its plan to sell off more of its greens for housing. This site is currently designated Sport and Recreation Area. The club successfully carried out a similar exercise several years ago. A large house now occupies part of its greens on the western end of its property fronting Wylie Street.
Mirvac has applied to build 285 high rise units on part of a private golf club currently zoned Sport and Recreation at Long Pocket, an undeveloped finger of land on the river set aside for parkland and sport and recreation under the City Plan. The development consists of eight apartment blocks of 4 to 6 storeys and two blocks of 3 to 4 storeys.
Residents may not be aware that a development application has been lodged for a multi storey block of units in the heart of Graceville. The proposed development comprises fourteen units and two shops in addition to the existing seven shops with heritage and character value in Honour Avenue opposite the Graceville Station. The development will be three storeys in height and include an excavated basement car park, and will have 35 car spaces. The residential units are to be located above car parking to the rear of the site and partially over the existing shops. Vehicular access is proposed from Rakeevan Rd. (Details can be found on the Council website at http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:STANDARD::pc=PC_914 . The development application number is 903001.)
